busy

i've been opening every day this week. and they've cut our hours again so they've all been shifts by myself. with a ton to do. i'm glad that's over with. at least for a day. i've had my nights to myself since gareth's been gone. i got my alaska album all in order. ended up having to redo most of it. i'm still nowhere near done but at least what i have so far looks good now. our cable went out the other day. looks like we don't get free tv anymore. i've discovered gareth's adventures of pete and pete though and been watching some movies. the only one i'd recommend is the union and only to a certain audience. guess i don't have much to write about... i started writing that the other day and didn't end up posting it. it's been a busy week or so since. i just got finished working seven days straight. two of them being double shifts. only one of which i was scheduled for. bbuster's bugging me. while i was at the bank for them yesterday though the tellers ended up saying they were hiring and that i should apply. i'm going to look into that. i also talked to a regular customer about the va equine rescue league that he's a part of. apparently they're looking for someone to go around and take pictures of the horses. i'd love to be around horses again and be of some serveice with my camera. we'll see where all that leads. i had a picture of mine used for a website recently. it's on the right. not the greatest picture but kinda neat. i had my car worked on for the first time the other day. just an oil change but they said i needed new breaks. for like two hunded dollars. my brother in law was nice enough to do them for me for free yesterday. and my sister was nice enough to make me dinner. i got to see everyone at my mom's brunch the other weekend. that was nice. i was late as usual. got mom a travel pillow like the one she kept stealing from me on our trip. gareth and i saw funny people last weekend. it was really good. we're going to see gi joe tonight. not really looking forward to it but he agreed to seeing five hundred days of summer today too so i can't complain. too much.

time

theses are the pictures i just submitted to this year's national wildlife federation magazine photo contest. i took them all in alaska. i don't have the highest hopes of winning but i figured i had some really nice shots again this year so why not try. we finally have our own internet so it's nice not having to constantly connect and lose what i was working on. my webshots album is still giving me problems though. it wouldn't let me look at all the ones i ended up reuploading. and now i still can't see half of those. and it won't let me rearrange them so they're in the correct order. grrr. i hope to eventually have those problems worked out so i can move onto the next segment of my trip. there's so many more pictures i have to put up. as you can see from the collage. then there's the story i want to eventually get to work on. i found a great green travel book i want to get. it gives tips on how to travel environmentally friendly. that's what i want my article to say with specifics on how to do it in alaska and the great sights i saw on my trip. it's just been a busy summer so far. haven't had a chance to look for another job lately either but got some good news at the bbuster. our district manager left and we got the one gareth had at his store. any district manager's job is to get on us about sales and whatnot but at least she's not a complete jerk about it like our last one was. so that makes me happy for now. gareth and i had a good day off together yesterday. we went to maymont and walked around the whole park. it was a sunny but not too hot day and it was pretty packed but still fun. afterwards we went by my store and picked up the watchmen. then we ordered a pizza and went to pick it up. and when we got there i managed to leave the keys in the car with it on and lock us out. wow. i'd never done all that before. it took aaa over an hour to come and let us back in. just an inconvenience though. nothing horrible happened and we got back to our place a little later and enjoyed the pizza and movie. we have another day off together tomorrow. then he leaves for five days to go to north carolina for a music festival. i'll miss him like he missed me when i was gone but i'm sure he'll be having a good time away like i was this time : ]

searching

we saw the new harry potter last night. it was actually quite good. gareth's review hasn't been posted yet but i always get a sneak peek since he writes it on my computer. the theater was packed with people in capes with lightning bolts on their foreheads. the girls sitting next to us had even brought sticks resembling wands. it was all quite fun. it had been a tough beginning of the week so i was glad to escape into some fantasy. while i was in louisa at my brother's we found some kittens living in the woods. they were covered in ticks and living in logs. so we captured them and i took them back to r'mond with me. i took them to the spca first thing in the morning. they wouldn't take them saying they had so many kittens there right now that they're offering them buy one get one free this month. so i had to take them to animal control. when they took them out they looked pretty bad. one was barely moving. they had to put that one down right away. the other they said they'd get the vet to look at it. i called back the next day and they said they'd had to put the other one down too. they were infested with maggotts. i felt so horrible about it. i'm awaiting a call from them now about a rabies test. i'd been bit by one of them and i'm hoping they weren't rabid on top of it all. what a sad story. it did inspire me to look into volunteering at the shelter though. but they don't have orientation again until september. i hope i do it then. dad's right. i should be working with animals. it's probably time to start up my job search again.

started

the internet goes in and out here. we finally signed up for our own yesterday but it won't be up for another week. things are mostly settled now. we've both been working full time this week. gareth actually gets a friday and saturday off this weekend. he always works weekends so i'm sure he's excited. but i'll be closing tonight and opening tomorrow. i'm off sunday though and i hope to head out to louisa for the first time since i got back from my trip. i ran into matt this week. really he ran into me. he and bobbie parked behind me at target and found me in the soap section. he jumped around the corner and scared the crap out of me. not literally. but then he laughed so hard he may have crapped himself. it was a good one. speaking of gasses... we got our oven working. gareth spent about an hour trying to light our pilot light. then i lit it in about a minute. poor guy. he didn't want me to get hurt. but i think i hurt his ego. at least i have banana bread now. we went to see bruno last night. it was hilarious at times but all around outrageous. as his movies tend to be. i'm watching a discovery show about all the mass extinctions in history. the movie knowing came out last week. with nicholas cage. it's about the next one. it was really good. but frightening.

finished

i'm at my new place. there's internet here too. i'm really digging this apartment. except i went to make banana bread tonight and after it was all mixed up i realized the oven doesn't work. blah. hopefully it's an easy fix. one to bother with another day. kitt's sleeping next to me on the bed. she hid under the covers the first day but she's been out exploring lately. i think she'll like it here. i almost don't want to document yesterday. it was a difficult day to say the least. gareth's friend had bailed on him the night before when they were supposed to be using the uhaul to move. so our former roommate ended up staying up with him all night moving everything here. just the two of them. it took until the middle of the day. then they had classes and work. and i was left with cleaning the whole house by myself. i can't complain too much since they did move most of my stuff. but it was an exhausting experience. it didn't look pristine but for the most part it actually looked better than when we'd moved in. so after all that the roommate and i spent the night doing yardwork. the landlord had mentioned that the yard was looking pretty rough and would cost a "few hundred dollars" to fix if we didn't do it ourselves. so we did. gareth missed all this but while he was at work his legs seized up and he could barely walk. poor guy. i'm glad that's all over with. i got to spend today unpacking boxes. i'm really excited about putting everything in its place and making it our home. that's the best part.
